Software as a Service (SaaS) originated in the early 21st century. SaaS is a software distribution model in which a third-party provider hosts applications in the cloud and makes them available to customers over the Internet. SaaS is usually a software licensing and delivery model in which software is licensed on a subscription basis and is centrally hosted. Software vendors host and maintain the servers, databases, and code that constitute an application. SaaS is one of three main categories of cloud computing, alongside infrastructure as a service (IaaS) and platform as a service (PaaS). There are many well-known examples of SaaS, including Office 365, Google Apps, Salesforce, Zoom, and Netflix. Outsourcing can be an easy path to velocity.
