The term performance is from the late 15c., "accomplishment" (of something), from perform + -ance. Meaning "a thing performed" is from 1590s; that of "action of performing a play, etc." is from 1610s.

How do you measure performance? What are the metrics determining performance to goals? There is gold in financial statements. Which financial statement is the most important-Income Statement, Cash Flow Statement, or Balance Sheet? The interdependence of the financial statements starts with customers and ends with shareholders. Is this interdependent world, we are all shareholders. Some shareholders happen to be bigger than others.
