Mission

The term mission is from the 1590s, "a sending abroad" (as an agent), originally of Jesuits, from Latin missionem (nominative missio) "act of sending, a dispatching; a release, a setting at liberty; discharge from service, dismissal," noun of action from past-participle stem of mittere "to release, let go; send, throw."

A mission statement is an action-oriented statement including a general description of the organization, its function, and its objectives. A mission statement is intended to answer the "what," "who," and the "why" questions for the existence of a company. It's the roadmap to determine a vision statement.
