The term needs means of necessity, necessarily, late 14c. and surviving in archaic constructions involving must, from Middle English nede.

One of the most essential parts of the sales process is needs analysis. Gather information you will need to develop your solution and ultimately the decision to buy. The goal is to understand a client's buying process, challenges, needs. What is the client looking to change? What is the buying criteria for the need?
