The term method originated in the early 15c., "regular, systematic treatment of disease," from Latin methodus "way of teaching or going," from Greek methodos "scientific inquiry, method of inquiry, investigation," originally "pursuit, a following after," from meta "in pursuit or quest of" (see meta-) + hodos "a method, system; a way or manner" (of doing, saying, etc.), also "a traveling, journey," literally "a path, track, road," a word of uncertain origin. Methodology is a branch of logic that shows how abstract logical principles are to be applied to the production of knowledge, 1800, from French méthodologie or directly from Modern Latin methodologia.

The methodology of "fail fast, fail often" can be confusing. There is confusion as companies teach employees and customers about lean and agile. Lean is a methodology to streamline, remove waste and inefficient processes. Agile methodology has its roots in software development where a company's highest priority is to satisfy the customer through early and continuous delivery of software. Agile involves the customer whereas lean involves the employee. Don't confuse lean methodology and agile methodology or you will confuse your employees and customers.
