The term confront is from the 1560s, "to stand in front of, be facing," from Middle French confronter (15c.), from Medieval Latin confrontare "assign limits to; adjoin," and confrontari "be contiguous to," from assimilated form of Latin com "with, together."

Engage customers with confrontational questions to create productive tension. Challenge the stakeholder’s preconceptions to ensure an understanding of the business driver behind the project/requirement. Explicitly confronting a client is also an opportunity to spot any conflicts or areas of disconnect between stakeholder groups while also providing an opportunity to debate and gain consensus.
