Origin of transparent is in the early 15c., from Medieval Latin transparentem (nominative transparens), present participle of transparere "show light through," from Latin trans "across, beyond; through" (see trans-) + parere "come in sight, appear; submit, obey" (see appear). Figurative sense of "easily seen through" is first attested 1590s. The origin of transparency traces back to the 1610s, "condition of being transparent," from Medieval Latin transparentia. Blockchain technology provides a high level of privacy by ensuring that transaction details are shared only amongst the participants involved in those transactions without a need for a third party. Along with a high level of privacy is a high level of transparency. High degrees of privacy and transparency do not seem to make sense. Blockchain systems include a fully auditable ledger which in indelible and unforgeable. In order to change a ledger entry, every block in the chain would also need to be changed. It is impossible to hide changes in the blockchain or add fraudulent transactions. Payments are transparent with "light shown through."
