The term research is from the 1590s, "investigate or study (a matter) closely, search or examine with continued care," from French recercher, from Old French recercher "seek out, search closely," from re-, here perhaps an intensive prefix (see re-), + cercher "to seek for," from Latin circare "go about, wander, traverse," in Late Latin "to wander hither and thither," from circus "circle."
Where do we wander these days? What lines do we transverse? What do we go about doing? Research is curiosity. What problem shall we solve? The internet enables research on most problems. Energy? Water? Pollution? Food security? Healthcare? Education? Research problems and put together a plan to solve a problem. Solving problems changes the world.
