Network

"Net-like arrangement of threads, wires, etc.," 1550s, from net (n.) + work (n.). Extended sense of "any complex, interlocking system" is from 1839 (originally in reference to transport by rivers, canals, and railways). Meaning "broadcasting system of multiple transmitters" is from 1914; sense of "interconnected group of people" is from 1947. The concept of networks has been around since the 1550s. Today a network looks much different from the 1550s. In 1839, networks were used more for transport. In 2019, networks are used for the transport of data, people, supply chains, rivers, railways, etc. With the arrangement of threads, wires, etc., comes complexity. Network optimization is considered an important component of effective information systems management. Supply chain network optimization enables companies to compare the current state of their supply chains to multiple “what-if” scenarios. Companies can then develop concise, strategic plans and goals based on KPIs. ABN=Always be Networking | ABO=Always be Optimizing | ABC=Always be Closing
