The etymology of learning is from the Old English leornung "study, action of acquiring knowledge," verbal noun from leornian (see learn). Meaning "knowledge acquired by systematic study, extensive literary and scientific culture" is from mid-14c. Machines acquire knowledge also. Machine learning sounds a little apocalyptical doesn't it? Machines have been helping humans for hundreds of years so why can't the computer "machine" also learn and help humans realize greater potential.
