Information

The term information is from the late 14c., informacion, "act of informing, communication of news," from Old French informacion, enformacion "advice, instruction," from Latin informationem (nominative informatio) "outline, concept, idea," noun of action from past participle stem of informare "to train, instruct, educate; shape, give form to." Data ranges from the name of a person or a place or a number etc. Data is the name given to basic facts and entities such as names and numbers.

Information is the set of data that has been organized for direct utilization to help human beings make a decision. Data is the building block of decision making. Information is the analysis of data.
