The term combine is from the early 15c., "to associate, unite, join two or more things together" (transitive), from Old French combiner (14c.) and directly from Late Latin combinare "to unite, yoke together," from Latin com "with, together" (see com-) + bini "two by two," adverb from bi- "twice."

Combinations of ideas, products, and people can create magic. It is difficult to create magic by yourself. Take two items and combine the items into one. What happens? The result is not always good. However, the result can create one of the most innovative items ever. A phone and a computer created one of the most innovative technologies ever. There are more combinations out there.
